Biography:
For twenty years (1988-2008), Jessie Myles served as the Multicultural/Urban Education Project Director for the Nebraska Department of Education, Equal Opportunity Education Programs. Nebraska has a state mandate requiring all school districts to infuse multicultural education into the core curriculum, K-12. As the Multicultural/Urban Education Project Director, he traveled throughout the state of Nebraska conducting workshops, seminars and/or in-services on multicultural education and other diversity related issues.

He completed all of his coursework toward a Doctorate Degree in Sociology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his Masters and B.A. degrees in Sociology from Grambling State University, Grambling, Louisiana. Before his position, of Multicultural/Urban Education Director, he was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for four and half years.

He has been a Trainer/Facilitator – Missouri Community Action Poverty Simulation, since 2004. The poverty simulation experience is designed to help participants begin to understand what it might be like to live in a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month. The objective is to sensitize participants to the realities faced by low-income people. He has integrated the poverty simulation activity in many workshops on poverty for school districts in Nebraska.

He is one of the first to become a certified national trainer in a program called Project REACH (i.e., Respecting Ethnic and Cultural Heritage). Project REACH is a multicultural education program designed for infusion into the regular U.S. History and/or Social Studies Program. The program intent is to increase knowledge and understanding related to cultural diversity in America. As a REACH Trainer and Diversity Consultant, he had conducted workshops, seminars, and keynote addresses across the United States.
